<br />ARCADIA CITY COUNCIL <br />REGULAR MEETING MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, MAY 2, 2017 <br /> <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER – Mayor Amundson called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br /> <br />PRESENT: Beck, Chandler, Verlato, Tay, and Amundson <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS – No one appeared prior to the Study session item being presented. <br />Mayor Amundson welcomed comments as part of the Study Session. <br /> <br />STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />a. Report, discussion, and direction concerning regulations for short term rentals <br />such as Airbnb and VRBO. <br /> <br />Ken Ng, an Arcadia resident, appeared and expressed safety concerns over short term rentals; <br />he indicated that the home next door is rented out through Airbnb; and stated that as a resident <br />he no longer feels safe with different people coming in and out of the home. <br /> <br />Hans Gustaffson, an Arcadia resident, appeared and expressed his concerns over the property <br />located at 2511 Florence Avenue; he spoke about the weekly events occurring at the property; <br />he indicated that the home has become a nuisance to the neighborhood; and urged the City <br />Council to treat this as an emergency and move quickly in finding a solution. <br /> <br />Matt, an Arcadia resident, appeared and suggested regulating a minimum stay with Airbnb <br />rentals. <br /> <br />Charlton Lee, an Arcadia resident, appeared and stated that his neighbor’s home is listed as an <br />Airbnb rental; he indicated that this has caused problems with his neighbor; and shared an <br />incident that occurred in which he had to contact the police. <br /> <br />Council Member Chandler announced that Jerry Selmer, an Arcadia resident, was unable to <br />attend the meeting, but submitted an email to the City Council regarding his concerns with <br />Airbnb’s. <br /> <br />Assistant City Manager/Development Services Director Kruckeberg presented a PowerPoint <br />presentation regarding short term rentals such as Airbnb and VRBO. <br /> <br />It was moved by Council Member Chandler, seconded by Council Member Beck, and carried on <br />roll call vote to direct staff to prepare an Ordinance to be considered at a Public Hearing before <br />the Planning Commission and City Council prohibiting short term rentals in residential zones <br />within the City. <br /> <br />AYES: Verlato, Chandler, Beck, Tay and Amundson <br />NOES: None <br /> <br /> <br /> 1 05-02-2017 <br /> <br />
