<br />CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS ARE TAPE RECORDED AND ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />INVOCATION <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> <br />COUNCIL <br />REORGANIZA- <br />TION <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />25:0265 <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA <br />and the <br />ARCADIA REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING <br /> <br />APRIL 21, 1981 <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Arcadia and the Arcadia Redevelopment <br />Agency met in a regular session April 21,' 1981 at 7:00 p.m. in the <br />Conference Room. <br /> <br />Father Timothy Rawle, Holy Angels Church <br />v <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br />ABSENT : <br /> <br />Councilmen Dring, Gilb, Haltom, Saelid, Pellegrino <br />None <br /> <br />Pursuant to the prOV1S10ns of Article IV, Section 404, Subsection (4) <br />of the Arcadia City Charter, in odd numbered years, at the second regu- <br />lar meeting held during the month of April, the City Council shall <br />e1ect one of its members as Mayor, and one of its members as Mayor Pro <br />Tempore. <br /> <br />Councilman Saelid placed in nomination the name of Councilman Charles <br />E. Gilb to act as Mayor for the ensuing year, stating in part that dur- <br />ing the past seven years Councilman Gilb has been involved in ptactic- <br />a1ly everything that is good for the City. He has recently served as <br />President of the Independent Cities of Los Angeles County and is pres- <br />ently President of the Los Angeles County Division of the League of <br />California Cities ... that he has done a great deal to bring prestige <br />to the City... and that he will represent the City well as Mayor. <br /> <br />Councilman Haltom said in part that there is one man on the Council <br />who has been outstanding, who at many times has turned the other cheek <br />and shown his true self ... the job of ~yor is demanding and often <br />thankless whose only reward is in knowing; he has done his best. He then <br />placed in nomination the name of Mayor Pellegrino. <br /> <br />A motion made by Councilman Saelid was already on the floor and Mayor <br />Pellegrino then seconded the nomination of Councilman Charles E. Gilb <br />to act as Mayor. Councilman Dring spoke in support of Councilman Gilb <br />and said in part that he is not only well qualified but very well suited <br />for the office. Mayor Pellegrino then thanked Councilman Haltom for his <br />confidence. Councilman Saelid then directed the City Clerk to cast an <br />unanimous ballot for Councilman Gilb. <br /> <br />Mayor Gilb then placed in nomination the name of Councilman Jack Saelid <br />to act as Mayor Pro Tempore for the ensuing year. Councilman Pellegrino <br />seconded the nomination. Mayor Gilb asked for a roll call vote. <br /> <br />AYES <br />NOES <br /> <br />Councilmen Pellegrino, Saelid, Gilb <br />Councilmen Dring, Haltom. Councilman Dring commented in part <br />that he could not support the motion as it was a break with <br />tradition. <br />None <br /> <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />On behalf of the City Council Mayor Gilb presented to Councilman Pelle- <br />grino a plaque in appreciation for devotion and service to his fellow <br />citizens, and commended him for the support he received from his wife, <br />children, mother, father and family. <br /> <br />-1- <br /> <br />4-21-81 <br />
