H. Warren Anderson, Pastor <br />of the Arcadia Community Church of God. <br /> <br />Mayor Phillips led in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. <br /> <br />PRESENT : <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />Councilmen Balser, Jacobi, Reibold, Phillips <br />Councilman Camphouse <br /> <br />Councilman Jacobi moved that the minutes of the regular meeting <br />of June 4, 1958 be approved as submitted in writing. Councilman <br />Reibold seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously. <br /> <br />At the Council meeting of June 4, 1958 the hearing on the <br />application of the Los Angeles County Disposal Company, 4026 <br />No. Rosemead Blvd., Rosemead, for a permit to pick up <br />commercial rubbish, had been continued to this date (June 17, <br />1958), in order to enable the Staff to prepare and submit to the <br />Council a report on the number of rubbish pick-up services ' <br />licensed to do business in Arcadia. <br /> <br />The City Manager proceeded to read the requested report (filed <br />in the office of the City Clerk), which stated in part that the <br />following are the five licensed commercial collectors now operat- <br />ing in Arcadia, together with the number of commercial accounts <br />they service: <br /> <br />Arcadia Rubbish Company <br />City Refuse Service <br />Community Disposal Co., Inc. <br />Moon Rubbish Disposal <br />Selma Rubbish Co. <br /> <br />168 <br />351 <br />4 <br />8 <br />1 <br /> <br />A general discussion ensued. Councilman Jacobi commented that <br />he felt the City should not exclude applicants for permits to <br />pick up rubbish having adequate dumping facilities and grant <br />licenses to those concerns not having same. <br /> <br />Councilman Balser stated that although he is in favor of free <br />enterprise he felt that since the City has five licensed rubbish <br />pick-up services at the present time it would not benefit the <br />City to license additional such services, in which opinion <br />Mayor Phillips stated that he concurred. <br /> <br />Councilman Balser then moved that the hearing be closed, which <br />motion was seconded by Mayor Phillips and carried unanimously. _~ <br /> <br />Councilman Balser moved that the application of the Los Angele;~~ <br />County Disposal Company for a permit to pick up commercial ~ c::s:---"< <br />rubbish be denied.
