<br />loc~,," <br /> <br />PLEDGE <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />7 - 7 - 59 <br />7-21-59 <br /> <br />HEARING <br />(Auction <br />Ostrow) <br /> <br />,04600 <br /> <br />M I NUT E S <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING <br /> <br />AUGUST 4, 1959 <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Arcadia, California, met in regular session <br />in the Council Chamber of the City Hall at 8:00 o'clock P.M., August 4, <br />1959. <br /> <br />The Invocation was offered by Rev. Bennie C. Flint, Pastor of the First <br />Baptist Church of Arcadia. <br /> <br />Mayor Reibold led in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br />ABSENT : <br /> <br />Councilmen Balser, Jacobi, Phillips, Reibold <br />Councilman Camphouse <br /> <br />Councilman Jacobi moved that the minutes of the regular meetings of <br />July 7, 1959 and July 21, 1959, as submitted in writing, be approved. <br />Motion seconded by Councilman Phillips and carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Reibold declared the hearing open on the application of Sid Ostrow, <br />Inc. for a business permit to conduct an auction of hardware and store <br />fixtures at 30 East Duarte Road, and inquired if anyone desired to speak <br />on the matter. <br /> <br />No one desiring to speak, Councilman Balser moved that the hearing be <br />rND~ closed, which motion was seconded by Councilman Jacobi and carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />~councilman Balser further moved that the Council grant the application of <br />,c'::"'I)f- Sid Ostrow, Inc., 1228 So. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, California, for <br />f. '~~ a business permit to conduct an auction of hardware and store fixtures at <br />~~. 30 East Duarte Road, being the assets of the Estate of James R. Deering, <br />f~ Deceased, for one day only, on August 11, 1959 from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. <br />V Motion seconded by Councilman Phillips and carried on roll call vote as <br />follows: <br /> <br />HEARING <br />(Susan's) <br /> <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Balser, Jacobi, Phillips, Reibold <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Camphouse <br /> <br />Mayor Reibold declared the hearing open on the application of Robert M. <br />Martin and Charles V. O'Brien of Susan's of Hollywood for a business <br />permit to solicit door to door, between the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 <br />P.M., Mondays through Fridays (no evening calls), during the month of <br />October, 1959, for orders to photograph children, and inquired if anyone <br />desired to speak. <br /> <br />"- <br />IND~Mrs. Dorothy Albert addressed the Council, stating that she is the Manager <br />'of the territory in this district; that both applicants work for her and <br />that she would speak on their behalf. She added that Susan's of Hollywood <br />is known as one of the larger baby photographic studios, and upon request <br />she tendered Councilman Phillips a coupon used by Susan's as a contract. <br /> <br />3~~J <br /> <br />In answer to various questions of the Councilmen as to Susan's method of <br />operation, Mrs. Albert advised that refunds are made if an appointment <br />cannot be kept because of illness; that five people work for her in this <br />area, two in Arcadia and three in Pasadena; that Susan's has worked in <br />Arcadia on a prior occasion; that telephone calls can be made directly to <br />Susan's or she may be reached through her telephone service and another <br />telephone number which she will supply upon request; and that she may be <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />8-4- 59 <br />
