''''''AT<O> <br /> <br /> <br />PLEDGE OF <br />ALLEGlANCE <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> <br />APPROVAL <br />OF MINUTES <br />(7- 5-60) <br /> <br />HEARING <br />(Atwell) <br /> <br />1b~)J <br /> <br />.:5 [) -~ :3- <br /> <br />M I NUT E S <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING <br /> <br />JULY 19, 1960 <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Arcadia met in regular session in the <br />Council Chamber of the City Hall at 8:00 o'clock P.M., July 19, 1960. <br /> <br />The Invocation was offered by Father Robert Byrne, Assistant Pastor of <br />the Holy Angels Church. <br /> <br />Mayor camphouse led in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br />ABSENT : <br /> <br />Councilmen Balser, Butterworth, Reibold, Phillips, Camphouse <br />None <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Balser that the minutes of the Regular Meeting of <br />July 5, 1960, as submitted in writing, be approved. Councilman Reibold <br />seconded the motion which was passed by the Aye vote of Councilmen Balser, <br />Butterworth, Reibold and Mayor Camphouse, with Councilman Phillips <br />abstaining due to absence from said meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Camphouse declared the hearing open on the application of Gaylord <br />E. Atwell, 2740 N. Maiden Lane, Altadena, representing the Holland Furnace <br />Company, 1914 E. Colorado, pasadena, for a business permit to allow door <br />to door solicitation of heating and air conditioning services, and <br />inquired if anyone in the audience desired to address the Council either <br />in favor of or in opposition to the granting of such permit. <br /> <br />Mr. Norman Commons, 2327 N. Garfield, Altadena, Manager of the Holland <br />Furnace Company, 1914 E. Colorado, Pasadena, addressed the Council, and <br />in answer to questions asked by the Council, stated in part that the <br />Holland Furnace Company sells heating and air conditioning equipment but <br />~liD~~~ that they propose in this particular instance to solicit only for cleaning <br />and servicing such equipment; that during the process of such service <br />should new parts be necessary they will be recommended. He added that <br />the hours of solicitation are as set forth in the application; also that <br />Holland Furnace Company has been located in Pasadena since 1951 and has <br />been in existance as a corporation since 1905. The City Clerk commented <br />that the application sets forth that the proposed business is to be <br />conducted only from July 20th through September, 1960. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />There being no one else desiring to be heard Councilman Phillips moved <br />that the hearing be closed. Councilman Balser seconded the motion which <br />was carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Councilman Phillips further moved that Council approve the application of <br />Gaylord E. Atwell for a business permit to allow door to door solicitation <br />of heating and air conditioning services, commencing July 20, 1960 through <br />September, 1960, during the hours specified in said application; that the <br />applicant be apprised of the City's ordinance regarding door to door <br />solicitation, prohibiting solicitation where the premises are posted to <br />that effect, and that a copy of such ordinance be included with his permit. <br />Councilman Reibold seconded the motion which was carried on roll call vote <br />as follows: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Balser, Reibold, Phillips, camphouse <br />NOES: Councilman Butterworth <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />7-19-60 <br />
