<br />,I <br /> <br />'INVOCATION <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> <br />PENDING <br />AGENDA <br />(Items 1 I> 2) <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF <br />MINUTES <br />(5-31-60 and <br />6- 8-60) <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AWARD TO <br />ARCADIA <br />(American <br />Cancer <br />Society) <br /> <br />0"7~ <br /> <br />HEARING <br />(1960-61 <br />Budget) <br /> <br />o <br />0191 <br /> <br />50;<, ;/.1 <br /> <br />M I NUT E S <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING <br /> <br />JUNE 21, 1960 <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Arcadia met in regular session in the <br />Council Chamber of the City Hall at 8:00 o'clock P.M., June 21, 1960. <br /> <br />The Invocation was offered by Father Henry Lewis Ewan, Pastor of the <br />Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration. <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br />ABSENT : <br /> <br />Councilmen Balser, Butterworth, Reibold, Phillips, Camphouse <br />None <br /> <br />Mayor Camphouse called for Item 2 on pending agenda, and Councilman <br />'Phillips advised that he had received a telephone call from Mr. Carl <br />Pearson inquiring as to the status of his request to convert a building <br />at 427 West Duarte Road into rental units, which request had been placed <br />on pending until the outcome of deliberations on the improvement or <br />opening of Arcadia Avenue. <br /> <br />A general discussion ensued. Mayor Camphouse stated that the above <br />matter also tied in with Item 1 on pending agenda regarding the rezoning <br />of Duarte Road between Holly Avenue and the commercial zone near Baldwin <br />Avenue. The Director of Public Works advised that deliberations had <br />progressed in ~he matter to the extent that plans and specifications were <br />completed and contracts ready to be let approximately the latter part of <br />October or early in November of 1960 for the commencement of work on the <br />opening of Arcadia Avenue. Councilman Phillips suggested that Mr. Pearson <br />be apprised of this situation. <br /> <br />Mayor Camphouse requested a staff report be submitted to the Council at <br />the next meeting covering the time table and status of the matter. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Reibold, seconded by Councilman Balser and carried <br />unanimously that the minutes of the Regular Adjourned Meeting of May 31, <br />1960 be corrected by the insertion of a "No" vote for Councilman Balser <br />on page 6, last paragraph; and as thus corrected and submitted in writing, <br />be approved; also that the minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 8, 1960 <br />as submitted in writing be approved. <br /> <br />Councilman Balser advised that at a luncheon which Mayor Camp house and he <br />attended on June 21, 1960, in Pasadena, of the San Gabriel Valley Branch <br />of the American Cancer Society, Arcadia had been honored by the presen- <br />tation of a plaque acknowledging Arcadia's outstanding service in the <br />cause of Cancer Control during the Society's annual campaign in 1960, and <br />that he had accepted said plaque on behalf of the City. He offered it <br />to the City Manager for display in the City Hall. <br /> <br />Councilman Balser then acknowledged the presence in the audience of Mrs. <br />Charles Vance, the Residential Chairman for Arcadia of the Cancer Drive, <br />adding that she had been to a great degree responsible for the said award <br />to the City of Arcadia. <br /> <br />Mayor Camp house declared the hearing open on the proposed budget for the <br />fiscal year 1960-61. The City Clerk advised that notice of the hearing <br />on the proposed 1960-1961 budget had been published and that copies of <br />the proposed budget have been on file in her office and available for <br /> <br />lHDELm <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />6-21-60 <br />
