(6-7-66) <br /> <br />HEARING <br />(Duarte <br />Road <br />property) <br /> <br />:J- 1143 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />17:6806 <br /> <br />M I NUT E S <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING <br /> <br />JUNE 21, 1966 <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Arcadia, California met in regular <br />session in the Council Chamber of the Arcadia City Hall on June 21, <br />1966 at 8 P.M. <br /> <br />Rev. Forman <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />Councilmen Arth, Butterworth, Considine, Hage, Forman <br />None <br /> <br />The Minutes of the regular meeting of June 7, 1966 were approved as <br />submitted in writing on MOTION by Councilman Butterworth, seconded <br />by Councilman Hage and carried unanimously. <br /> <br />The hearing was scheduled at the request of property owners On Duarte <br />Road between Holly and El Monte Avenues and was for open discussion <br />on future improvements. The Director of Public Works summarized his <br />report dated June 16, 1966 (on file in the office of the City Clerk) <br />wherein the construction activities since 1955 were outlined including <br />daily and anticipated increase in traffic volume and the capacity of <br />the street to handle such increase, the congestion of which <br />contributes to accidents in the subject section of Duarte Road. <br /> <br />The Planning Director also presented an area study of the properties <br />on both sides of the street and summarized the contents of his report <br />dated June 6, 1966 which included land use, development pattern, <br />setbacks and reflected no properties with improvements existing in <br />the needed space for a widening program. <br /> <br />Whereupon Mayor Forman declared the hearing open and persons spoke <br />to the matter in part as follows: <br /> <br />James Coyle, 273 W. Duarte Road, asked for and received ansWers to <br />questions concerning the proposed widening. The possibility of <br />eliminating parking in the area which is zoned R-l was also suggested <br />as a way to gain a traffic lane on either side of the street. <br /> <br />Herbert Nicholson, 340 W. Duarte Road, stated in part that the <br />property owners are entitled to know what the City proposes to do - <br />whether the required land is to be acquired through condemnation, <br />dedication or by the offer of a fair price especially in instances <br />where improvements must be relocated. <br /> <br />The City Manager Pro Tempore explained the procedure which has been <br />followed in acquiring the land for widening purposes west of Baldwin <br />Avenue on Duarte Road and the Director of Public Works explored <br />procedure in constructing driveway aprons, relocation of utility <br />meters, block walls, chain link fences and shrubbery. <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />6-21-66 <br />
