<br />:1t'~ <br /> <br />City Court Roam, 50 Wheeler St., Arcadia, California. <br />October 20, 1942, 8:00 o'clock P.M. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Arcadia met in regular session <br />at the above t1me and mentioned place, with Mayor Ormsby presiding: . <br /> <br />PRESENT: Councilmen Adcock, Jones, Leeper, Nugent and Ormsby <br />.ABsENT: None <br /> <br />Motion by'Councilman'Nugent, seconded by Councilman Leeper <br />and unanimously carried, that the Minutes of the regular meeting of Octo- <br />ber 6, 1942, be and the same are hereby approved. <br /> <br />Communication was read from the County of Los Angeles, Board <br />of Supervisors, advising as to the adoption by said Board of ~ Resolution <br />authorizing an appropriation of $2000.00 from the Motor Vehicle Fund for <br />the 1mprovement of Baldwin Avenue and other streets within the City of <br />Arcadia. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Adcock, seconded by Councilman Leeper and <br />unanimously carried, that the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and <br />directed to make written request to the Road Commissioner of Los Angeles <br />County ,that said money be Paid to the City of Arcadia when such funds are <br />available in the County Treasury. <br /> <br />Communication was read from the Fire Chief advising as to the <br />temporary appointment of Mr. Edward D. Eveleth as Hoseman in the Fire De- <br />partment, effective as of October 16, 1942, at the salary of $140.00 per <br />mon th . <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Adcock and <br />unan1mously c~rried, that the temporary appointment of Mr. Edward D. Eveleth <br />as Hoseman in the Fire Department effective as of October 16, 1942, at the <br />salary of $140.00 per month, be and the same is hereby approved. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Adcock and <br />unanimously carried, that the Chief of Police be and he is hereby authoriz- <br />ed and directed to employ a temporary part time clerk to serve in the capa- <br />city of Court Clerk. The wages for such employment is hereby fixed at 65' <br />per hour. <br /> <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Jones seconded by Councilman Nugent and <br />unan1mously carried, that the Chief of Police be and he is hereby directed <br />to cause to be installed on the Rancho Santa Anita 5 warning signs entitl- <br />ed: II ANY ONE IN.TIJRING OR MOLESTING PEACOCKS WILL BE PROSECUTED. II <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Adcock and <br />unan1mously carried, that the Fire Chief be and he is hereby directed to <br />enroll and maintain 12 active Volunteer Firemen. The wages of such Volunteer <br />Firemen are hereby fixed at $2.00 per fire or drill, plus 65~ per hour for <br />services rendered after the first two hours at such fires or drills. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Nugent and <br />unanimously carried, that the Personnel Board be requested to direct the <br />Los Angeles County Civil Service Commission to call an open competitive <br />Civil Service Examination for the position classification of Junior Steno- <br />grapher-Account Clerk; salary of said position classification is hereby <br />fixed at $110.00 per month. <br /> <br />y <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Adcock and <br />unan1mously carried, that the Mayor and City Clerk be and theya re hereby <br />authorized and directed to execute in the name of and on behalf of the City <br />of Arcadia that certain Agreement dated October 20, 1942, by and between <br />the City of Arcadia and Albert Locher covering the service and repair of all <br />Radio equipment now or hereafter owned by the City of Arcadia and being us- <br />ed by the Police Department of said City of Arcadia. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Adcock, seconded by Councilman Jones, and <br />unanimously carried, that the City Council rejec~ the Notice of Intention of <br />the City Tax Collector to sell certain tax deeded ~roperty, viz: Lot 48, <br />Tract 808, at pub~ic auction, at a minimum bid of $500.00; and that the City <br />Council does hereby refuse to approve the sale of said property at a mini- <br />mum bid of less than $,900.00. <br /> <br />Report was submitted by the Chief of Police and the Fire Chief <br />relabive to the alleged nuisance caused by smoke and odors emanating from <br />the Sierra Madre City Dump. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Jo~es, seconded by Councilman Leeper and <br />unanimously carried that the City Attorney be and he is hereby authorized <br />and directed to fo~ard petition of the residents of the City of Arcadia con- <br />cerning the nuisance created and requesting the City of Sierra Madre to cor- <br />rect the condition present. <br /> <br />Report was submitted and read from the Chief of Police concern- <br />ing the absence of Officer Stanley E. Halstead from his assigned duties as a <br />Patrolman in the City of Arcadia Police Department. <br /> <br />The Mayor referred said report to the Personnel Board for con- <br /> <br />sideration and recommendation. <br />i subnitted by O.
