ARCADIA CITY COUNCIL <br /> REGULAR MEETING MINUTES <br /> TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2017 <br /> CALL TO ORDER — Mayor Amundson called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. <br /> ROLL CALL OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br /> PRESENT: Beck, Chandler, Verlato, Tay, and Amundson <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS — No one appeared <br /> CLOSED SESSION <br /> a. Pursuant to Government Code Section 54956.9(d)(1) to confer with legal counsel <br /> regarding the matter of Los Angeles SMSA Limited Partnership, a California <br /> limited partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless v. City of Arcadia (United States <br /> District Court, Central District, Case No.: 2:17-cv-03778 DSF JEMx). <br /> No reportable action was taken on the Closed Session item. <br /> STUDY SESSION <br /> a. Report, discussion and direction regarding potential revenue enhancement <br /> through a voter-approved sales tax measure. <br /> (Continued from the August 1, 2017, Study Session) <br /> The City Council received a report from City Manager Lazzaretto regarding potential revenue <br /> enhancement through a voter-approved sales tax measure; the City Council (5-0) directed staff <br /> to bring back options concerning retention of a consultant and a survey company in order to <br /> further the possible placement of a ballot measure before the voters concerning a potential <br /> sales tax measure. <br /> b. Report, discussion and direction regarding Crime Reduction Strategies. <br /> Regarding the "Ring doorbell program" presented by Police Chief Guthrie, on motion by Council <br /> Member Beck, seconded by Council Member Chandler, the City Council (5-0) allocated up to <br /> $25,000 to support a $50 rebate program toward the purchase by a homeowner of the $200 <br /> item, and the Ring doorbell company will also provide a $50 rebate thereby causing the item to <br /> cost $100, instead of the $200 charge for the item; the City Council also authorized the <br /> expenditure of up to $40,000 to waive the $40 annual alarm permit from the City; the motion <br /> was approved 5-0. <br /> c. Report, discussion and direction regarding One Arcadia Competition Results. <br /> The City Council received a report from City Manager Lazzaretto regarding the One Arcadia <br /> Competition results; this item pertained to a competition among City staff, led by City Manager <br /> Lazzaretto, to propose programs that might bring Arcadians together.
